Flame Style, Flame Rimmed[1] or Flame Motif pottery (火焔土器 or 火焔型土器, kaen doki or kaen-gata doki) is a distinctive style of Jōmon pottery dating back to roughly 3520 to 2470 BC, during the first phase of human settlement on the Japanese Archipelago. It is distinctive a type of earthenware known for its unique, ornamental patterns. The Kaen Doki were first discovered at the Umataka-Sanjūinaba Site in Nagaoka City in 1936 during the Shōwa era.[2]
