I drew this as a little vent art for me and
tomoefuchs, since we were both very pissed about the unnecessary hostility that arose at his workplace (and also because I just really enjoy drawing teeth and snarling muzzles). I blame his boss. It's their work to manage their employees well and maintain a good work environment, not to spread BS for drama.
Not sure what to think about this one. I hate the teeth, even though I like how I shaded them?? I don't know it's weird. But I'm satisfied how the fur came out, and the braid there, so at least something I guess!
Anyway, as usual, some Thirian lore:
Despite the many civilized settlements that grew in certain places, Thira still remains mostly wild and untamed. Stepping out of a settlement's living grounds means stepping right into the wilderness, inhabited by wild animals and predators that continue to live by the nature's only rule - survival of the fittest. However, no matter how civilized, Thirians are well adapted to this. They are children of the cold land as much as all its other creatures, they grew within the nature's ruthless domain just the same, and they evolved into huge beasts that never sacrificed their brawn for intelligence. A Thirian werewolf has all the means to defend itself and feed itself just fine, without any supporting tools. It's certainly not just a harmless little critter that would present as an easy snack for a hungry predator. Yet, even Thirian werewolves have enemies in the wild - highly territorial animals, wild cubs with overprotective mothers, moody bears, but also bandits, marauders and hostile tribes, those are the biggest dangers for an individual outside of its home.
All youngsters traditionally undergo a basic survival training when they're old enough, that aims to prepare them for the outside feral world. They're mainly taught how to hunt and how to navigate, but also how to avoid these dangers and defend oneself if needed. In most parts of Thira, this is known as the rite of adulthood, as by the general belief, one becomes an adult when they become independent from their parents. The age at which this training usually begins varies greatly between cultures and between individual families - there's no rule restricting youngsters from starting their training earlier or later, as long as they are capable of completing it. There's no rule saying they even have to take the training at all. Tomoe was among the youngsters who completed the rite of adulthood at the usual age in his home settlement, but Kajirra for example never took it, as she was already learning from her mother to be a scribe and never expected or wanted to set a paw beyond the settlement's living grounds. Tomoe was the one to teach her after they met, and started traveling between their homelands together. He was ready to protect her anytime - experience or not, Tomoe still had the advantage of being considerably large and strong, even for a werewolf.
